Introducing the Jacquard Hooded Jacket

Now, Indie Ella offers the faux fur-lined Jacquard Hooded Jacket to keep you warm, toasty and fashionable. Like all of our products, the Jacquard Hooded Jacket is made from upcycled and recycled materials under fair, cottage industry working conditions. Each jacket is also completely unique and one-of-a-kind, waiting for its perfect owner.

What Is Jacquard?

Jacquard is a special woven fabric created using a loom. Instead of dying or printing a design onto the fabric, the design is woven directly into the fabric itself while in the loom. A special loom attachment allows for this technique, which was named for the inventor of said loom attachment, Joseph Jacquard.

Jacquard textiles are commonly used in upholstery, bedding, and saris. The textiles used in saris are the softest and often have the most vibrant fabrics since they are used only for special occasions. Since jacquard is a more rare fabric and much thicker than silk, saris made from it are often saved only for the most formal of occasions. Such occasions must also be during the evening or when temperatures are cooler.

Why Jacquard for Indie Ella?

While the jacquard fabric is more time-consuming and labor-intensive to create than a basic fabric weave, it has many advantages. The in-loom technique allows fabric to have more stretch, more durability, and beautiful patterns, giving it an overall high level of quality. Colors can last longer and have powerful gradients, intricate patterns, and even a mixture of textures. The jacquard fabrics used in Indie Ella jackets are all upcycled from jacquard fabrics that were once used as saris.

The Jacquard Faux Fur Hooded Design

The durable high-quality jacquard outer material is supplemented by deluxe recycled faux fur to add a layer of insulating warmth. The plushy fur never goes out of style and is from natural cotton fibers, feeling soft on the skin and never irritating. Each jacket is lined in full, including the hood and sleeves, for keeping warm even on a chilly, windy day.

How We Create Our Jacquard Jackets

Each jacket is a unique, one-of-a-kind piece, as with all Indie Ella clothing (and furniture!). The material for each Indie Ella Jacquard Hooded Jacket is hand-selected for recycling, washed, and sewn into the jacket pattern inside our locally-owned cottage industry factory in Pushkar, India. Owning this piece is not only owning a functional and truly unique jacket to keep you warm and cozy, but it also supports slow fashion, fair wages, recycled clothing and environmental sustainability!
